Setting up on a Roku TV

  1. 1

Create your account and start your free trial Done

Sign up at glucotv.com, then start the 7-day free trial. A card is required to start, and if you cancel before the trial ends you pay nothing. A device can't be paired until the trial or a subscription is active.

    Stuck?
    I can't sign in
Choose Forgot password? on the sign-in form. If you created your account with Google, use the Continue with Google button instead — typing your Google email with a password won't work, and the error just says the email or password is incorrect.
    I don't remember which email I used
Email support@glucotv.com from any address you might have used and we'll help you find it.
The pairing page says a subscription is required
Your trial hasn't started yet. Open your Account page and choose Start 7-Day Free Trial.
  2. 2

Install the GlucoTV channel on your Roku Done

On your Roku, from the Home screen choose Streaming Channels, then Search Channels, type GlucoTV and select Add Channel. Already installed? Skip to step 3.

Can't find it on the TV? Open the GlucoTV page in the Roku Channel Store and choose Add channel while signed in to your Roku account.

    Stuck?
GlucoTV doesn't show up when I search
Type it as one word, GlucoTV. Make sure the Roku is online and signed in to a Roku account. If you added the channel from the web page, it can take a few minutes (occasionally longer) to appear on the TV — restarting the Roku usually brings it up: Settings → System → Power → System restart.
I added it but can't find it on the Home screen
New channels are added at the end of the list. Scroll to the bottom of your channels, or press * on a channel and choose Move channel to put it where you want it.
    Still nothing
Email support@glucotv.com with your Roku model and we'll look into it.
  3. 3

Open the channel and find the pairing code Done

Open GlucoTV from your Roku Home screen. The first time, it shows a code like WOLF-4821 and a QR code. The code is replaced with a new one every 10 minutes, so always use the one on the screen when you type it in.

    Stuck?
It says ERROR or “Could not reach server”
The TV can't reach GlucoTV. Check the Roku's connection (Settings → Network → Check connection), then press Home and open the channel again.
The code changed while I was typing
That's normal. Use the newest code on the screen.
There's no pairing code — it went straight to a disclaimer or glucose screen
This Roku is already paired, so you can skip ahead to step 5. To pair it again (for example to a different account), press * on the remote, choose Re-Pair Device, and a new code will appear.
The QR code is just a blank white square
The picture couldn't load. You don't need it — go to glucotv.com/pair on any phone or computer and type the code.
  4. 4

Enter the code and connect your CGM Done

Scan the QR code with your phone, or go to glucotv.com/pair. Choose Pair Your Roku, type the code from your TV, pick Dexcom or Nightscout, and enter your details. Pairing and connecting your CGM happen together in this one step.

    Stuck?
“Pairing code expired or isn't right”
Codes last 10 minutes and the TV shows a new one each time. Type the code that is on the TV right now: a word, a dash and four numbers, like WOLF-4821. Capital letters and the dash don't matter. If the TV shows an error instead of a code, go back to step 3.
Scanning the QR code sent me to a sign-in page
The pairing page needs you to be signed in with an active trial. Sign in on the Account page, then open glucotv.com/pair again and enter the code. It stays valid for 10 minutes.
    Dexcom: “Could not log in”
Use your Dexcom username and password. If you normally sign in with an email address or phone number and it's rejected, try your username instead — it's shown in your Dexcom account settings on the Dexcom website. Dexcom Share must also be turned on in the Dexcom app; some accounts need at least one follower set up before Share starts publishing readings. If your Dexcom account is outside the United States, choose Outside United States as the region.
Nightscout: “Couldn't connect” or “doesn't look like a Nightscout site”
Enter just the main address of your site, like https://yourname.herokuapp.com — no /api or other path. It has to be a public web address: ones that only work on your home network (192.168.x.x or localhost) can't be reached from the internet.
    Nightscout: “asked for a login”
Your site needs a password to read data. Type your API secret (the API_SECRET you set when you created the site) or an access token into the box under the address. A token is safer because it can be read-only: in Nightscout open Admin Tools, create a subject with the readable role, and copy its token. You can also paste a link that ends in ?token=… and we'll pick the token out for you.
It says my code was already used
A code only works once. If your TV shows glucose readings, you're done. If not, press * on the Roku remote, choose Re-Pair Device, and use the new code.
  5. 5

    Confirm your first reading Done

Within about a minute your Roku should show your current glucose, a trend arrow and a 3-hour graph. New readings arrive about every 5 minutes, because that's how often a CGM reports. When we've received one, “Last reading received” above turns green.

    Stuck?
The TV says “Unable to fetch glucose data”
Despite the advice on screen, this isn't always an internet problem — it appears whenever we can't get a reading from your CGM. Nightscout: open your site in a browser and check it's up and showing recent data. Dexcom: open the Dexcom app, confirm Share is on and the app is uploading, and check the Dexcom status badge at the bottom of this page.
The TV says “Dexcom session expired”
GlucoTV couldn't sign in to Dexcom with your saved login. A changed password is one cause; a temporary Dexcom problem can show the same message and clear by itself. If it stays, enter your login again. The TV suggests visiting glucotv.com/pair, but you need a new code first: press * on the Roku remote, choose Re-Pair Device, then repeat step 4 with the new code.
It shows “-- min ago” or an old reading
The TV shows the newest reading we have. If your CGM hasn't uploaded for a while (the phone app was closed, or Bluetooth dropped), there's nothing newer to show. Open your CGM app and it should catch up.
My TV works, but this page doesn't show my Roku as paired
TVs paired before devices were linked to accounts automatically aren't listed here. Nothing is wrong and it keeps working. To see it here, open Account → Link a Session and paste the ID from your viewer link (glucotv.com/view/this-part).

  2. 2

Connect your CGM and get your link Done

Open the pairing page and choose Pair a Computer. Pick Dexcom or Nightscout, enter your details and press Connect & Get My Link. You don't need a Roku or a pairing code. If you'd like the link emailed to you, or to anyone else who needs it, type their addresses in the optional Recovery Email box, separated by commas.

    Stuck?

Your trial hasn't started yet. Open your Account page and choose Start 7-Day Free Trial.

The email with my link didn't arrive
The email is a bonus, and sending it can fail. The link is also shown on the screen right after you connect, so copy it from there. If you've lost it, you can find it again under Linked Sessions on your Account page.
  3. 3

Open your link and confirm your first reading Done

After you connect, the page shows your link, which looks like glucotv.com/view/…. Open it in any web browser and you should see your current glucose, a trend arrow and a graph. The page refreshes itself, and new readings arrive about every 5 minutes, because that's how often a CGM reports. Bookmark the link now. When we've received a reading, “Last reading received” above turns green.

Anyone you give the link to can view your readings without an account, so share it only with people you want to see them.

    Stuck?
    I lost the link
Open your Account page and look under Linked Sessions. You can also connect again on the pairing page (choose Pair a Computer) to get a new one.
The page says “Unable to load data”
It couldn't get a reading from your CGM, and it keeps retrying. Nightscout: open your site in a browser and check it's up and showing recent data. Dexcom: open the Dexcom app, confirm Share is on and the app is uploading, and check the Dexcom status badge at the bottom of this page.
    It says “Dexcom session expired”
GlucoTV couldn't sign in to Dexcom with your saved login. A changed password is one cause; a temporary Dexcom problem can show the same message and clear by itself. If it stays, connect again on the pairing page (choose Pair a Computer) and use the new link.
It says the connection isn't active because its subscription has ended
The trial or subscription this connection belongs to is over. Renew from your Account page and the link works again.
    It shows an old reading
The page shows the newest reading we have. If your CGM hasn't uploaded for a while (the phone app was closed, or Bluetooth dropped), there's nothing newer to show. Open your CGM app and it should catch up.
